General objective
Promote healthy and sustainable eating among children in primary schools across 6 Indigenous municipalities of Oaxaca—4 in the Sierra Juárez region and 2 in the Valles Centrales—through the implementation of a comprehensive program that combines the creation of community school gardens with sustainable farming practices.
Objective 1:
Raise awareness among 174 people per year—including children, municipal authorities, and educational authorities—about healthy and sustainable eating in 6 primary schools across the municipalities. This will be achieved through various participatory methodologies focused on promoting environmental care and sustainable land stewardship practices.
Objective 2:
Create intergenerational dialogue spaces between children and local farmers in each of the 6 municipalities, reaching 132 participants over 3 years, with the aim of passing down ancestral knowledge about planting, harvesting, and the benefits of consuming locally grown products.
Objective 3:
Establish school gardens in 6 primary schools, managed by groups made up of children, teachers and/or parents, farmers, and municipal authorities—114 participants over 3 years—to provide hands-on learning about growing vegetables and greens, while promoting sustainable practices and strengthening the connection to the land.
Project period: January 2025 to Decemer 2027 (36 months).
Total impact:
The project is expected to directly benefit a total of 420 people per year. While establishing a specific relationship between direct and indirect beneficiaries can be complex and varies depending on the context, our estimate—based on prior experience—is a minimum of 2 indirect beneficiaries for every direct beneficiary.
Total amount to donate for 2025 year period: €4,998 EUR
